The 5th EAC Agriculture Budget Summit 2020
Theme: “Lessons from the Malabo Biennial Review Report 2019 in Enhancing Agriculture and Food Security amid and post COVID -19”
The Summit aims to bring together key stakeholders of the agriculture sector in EAC to take stock of the previous summits and deliberate on the 2nd Malabo Biennial Review Report of 2019 and align recommendations to the impact of COVID 19 pandemic
Objectives of the EAC Agriculture Budget Summit 2020
(i) To get updates of the resolutions agreed during the 4th EAC SSFs Agriculture Budget
Summit held in May 2019 in Arusha – Tanzania;
(ii) Discuss and deliberate on the findings and lessons from the Malabo Biennial
Review Report 2019 in enhancing agriculture transformation in sustainable way,
and
(iii) Discuss and deliberate on the impact of COVID -19 on food security andsovereignty in the region
Summit Postmortem.
A stock taking session will be organized to follow the Summit a week after. This meeting will be a platform of reflection and evaluation of the entire process of organizing the Summit. It will be attended by key stakeholders of the Summit. The meeting shall develop a road for the organization of the next summit, duties and responsibilities. In case of agreed action points during the summit, this meeting shall consider their implementation.
Expected outputs of the 5th EAC Budget Summit
• A consolidated EALA report on the activities emanated from the statement of the budget summit 2019
• The summit 2020 communiqué to the EAC Secretariat and partner states
• A developed roadmap to organizing the EAC Agriculture Budget Summit 2021 at regional and national level
• A proceeding consolidated report
