ARUSHA, TANZANIA<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

East Africa Community Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme or simply EAC <\/span>CAADP Compact has been endorsed by the Regional Council of Ministers in their meeting in January 2016, it has been disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

This implies that the document is by and large ready for signing by the EAC partner states.<\/p>\n

\n

Mr. \u00a0Timothy Wesonga, a senior official at EAC Secretariat, Directorate of Agriculture while addressing\u00a0 EAC Small Scale Farmers<\/span>\u2019 Summit, he said the Council of Ministers in their meeting in January 2016 endorsed the Compact.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The <\/span>Ministers asked the\u00a0 EAC secretariat to improve some issues in the document and submit for verification before the document can be <\/span>\u00a0signed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Mr. Wesonga said that the EAC CAADP COMPACT derives its rationale from the EAC Treaty <\/span>\u2013 pronounced in the Customs Union, Common Market Protocol, EAC Agriculture and Rural<\/span> Development Program and Strategy as well as the EAC Food Security Action Plan (FSAP).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

He says the Compact is expected to progressively contribute towards hunger and poverty reduction, food and nutrition security, and regional integration by boosting intra-and inter regional trade through using regional trade frameworks such as the SPS Protoco.l<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0Priority of the EAC CAADP Compact will include 7 areas:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sustainable Natural Resource Use and Management,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rural Infrastructure, ICT and Trade-Related Capacities for Improved Market Access,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Food Supply and Reducing Hunger<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Agricultural Research, Technology Dissemination and Adoption<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Enhancing Resilience of Livelihoods and Production Systems and Management of Risks,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Institutional and Financial Strengthening and,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n
