{"id":6176,"date":"2023-09-12T13:44:51","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T13:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esaff.org\/index-php\/?p=6176"},"modified":"2023-09-13T13:54:04","modified_gmt":"2023-09-13T13:54:04","slug":"press-release-regional-civil-society-organisations-continue-pushing-for-accountability-across-southern-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esaff.org\/index-php\/press-release-regional-civil-society-organisations-continue-pushing-for-accountability-across-southern-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"PRESS RELEASE &#8211; Regional civil society organisations continue pushing for accountability across Southern Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Regional civil society organisations continue pushing for accountability across southern Africa <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Johannesburg, South Africa<\/p>\n<p>On 13<sup>th<\/sup> and 14<sup>th<\/sup> September, civil society organisations from across southern Africa will meet online and parallel gatherings across six different locations (Johannesburg, Dodoma, Harare, Lilongwe, Lusaka, and Maputo to assess the progress of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in implementing its 10-year strategy, the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-30.<\/p>\n<p>Co-convened by 14 regionally-focused organisations, the event will focus on the importance of socially accountable public resource management in the region\u2019s development. The theme of this year\u00b4s dialogue is \u00b4Accelerating SADC\u2019s Development through the Socially Accountable Generation and Use of Public Resources.\u00b4<\/p>\n<p>Participants will review how SADC member states have worked toward strengthening accountability in the generation and management of public resources to ensure delivery of effective public services. The dialogue will focus on identifying progress and challenges in the key social sectors of health, education, and agricultural sectors; assess regional actions supportive of women and young people; and interrogate the generation of resources for development through industrialisation and trade.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s dialogue will explore how the region is responding to the growing impact of climate change on development.
