{"id":1801,"date":"2017-05-05T12:54:13","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T12:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.esaff.org\/?p=1801"},"modified":"2017-05-05T12:54:13","modified_gmt":"2017-05-05T12:54:13","slug":"1801-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esaff.org\/index-php\/1801-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ESAFF Seeks Tangible Progress in Fast Tracking Of Domestication Of Malabo Declaration In East Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Individual nations in the East African Community(EAC) have got every reason to start fast tracking the implementation of the Malabo Declaration for wide spread\u00a0 economic development geared to improve the livelihood of millions of smallholder farmers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Malabo Declaration is the blue print for the African continent to improve agriculture to eliminate hunger and halve poverty by the year 2025<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to ESAFF Chairman, Mr. Serge Benstrong, East Africa Legislative Assembly(EALA) last year approved a resolution urging member states to fast track the implementation of the Malabo Declaration in their countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.esaff.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1-flaggs-images.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1102\" src=\"http:\/\/www.esaff.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1-flaggs-images.jpg\" alt=\"1 flaggs images\" width=\"301\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>\u201cIt\u2019s time to act as nations have the blessings of EALA. Member states commitment should be actualised in the forthcoming national budgets and subsequent implementations,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Late last year, Hon Mr. Mike Sebalu (Uganda)moved a motion for a resolution in the EALA sitting in Zanzibar that urged partner States to fast-track domestication of the Malabo Declarations and its commitments. The motion was approved. Ealier last June in Arusha ESAFF, Actionaid, ANSAF, EACSOF, the CAADP Non State Actors Coalition (CNC) and Members of EALA met in what was dubbed EAC Farmers\u2019 Summit, where a resolution was passed to seek greater domestication of the Malabo Declaration and its 7 commitments by partner states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.esaff.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1.-Hon-Dan-Kidega-left-Speaker-of-EALA-with-Hon-Opoka.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1104 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.esaff.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1.-Hon-Dan-Kidega-left-Speaker-of-EALA-with-Hon-Opoka.jpg\" alt=\"1. Hon Dan Kidega (left), Speaker of EALA with Hon Opoka\" width=\"256\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a>The ESAFF coordinator, MrJoe Mzinga said in the case of Tanzania making crop, livestock and fisheries the centrepiece of Tanzania\u2019s economic development agenda, would widen the stakes in cutting\u00a0 poverty rates by half by 2025. \u201cIn Tanzania only agriculture-led economic growth is able to cater for majority populace,\u201d he noted.<br \/>\nHe clarified that domesticating \u2018Malabo Declaration\u2019 does not mean that each county will have same priorities.
